No FTSE Upgrade For Taiex, Kospi

September 2004 | Market Strategy

Global index compiler FTSE has decided against upgrading the status of the Taiwanese and South Korean stock markets from "advanced emerging" to "developed". Both bourses will remain on a watch list for possible promotion in the future, and their categorisation will be reviewed again in September 2005. However, even if FTSE upgrades these markets a year from now, this will not take effect until March 2006. Meanwhile, FTSE also said that China's A-shares would not be included in its Global Equity Index Series.
