Hamas Win: Immediate Implications
January 2006 | Market StrategyWe are reluctant to draw any long-term conclusions too quickly from the news that Islamist militant group Hamas appears to have won yesterday’s Palestinian parliamentary elections. In our article yesterday, in which we assumed the party would win substantial representation, rather than an outright victory, we said that it was not yet time to panic, and, in spite of the increased risk now, we stand by this. We wait to see in more detail the composition of the incoming administration and the reaction of the international community, as well as an indication of the policy stance of Hamas’ new MPs.
