Congress Eyes Faster Reform, New Blood
April 2006 | Market StrategyThe Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) concluded its eight-day 10th National Congress yesterday with pledges of faster economic reform and a fight against corruption. CPV General Secretary Nong Duc Manh was re-elected to the post, boding well for continuity of reform. The Congress also elected a new 160-member Central Committee, a 14-member Politburo, an eight-member Secretariat, and a 14-member Inspectorate, with many younger officials joining the ranks of these bodies. A gradual generational shift is taking place, which will bring in new blood to the CPV and prepare the ground for further liberalisation.
