Similarities To Asian Crisis Are Limited
June 2008 | Market StrategyAlarming warnings about Vietnam's economic condition have begun to make headlines, with rising fears about everything from a currency crisis, to a balance of payments crisis, to a banking crisis. All of these are very real threats, but perhaps the most alarming is the suggestion that we are in store for another meltdown in the style of the Asian tigers in 1997-98. There are still very good reasons to avoid Vietnam for the time being, but we do not think that a full-blown Asian crisis is one of them. We agree that there are some similarities, but there are also
