Cairo Bombing: Immediate Implications

We had already revised down our short-term political risk ratings for Egypt, in anticipation of increased unrest, and as such we are leaving them unchanged in the wake of the bombing in Cairo's Khan al-Khalili market, which has killed at least one person and injured twenty more. However, we note that with sentiment towards the government having deteriorated even further following its perceived support for the Israeli campaign against Hamas in January, and economic conditions continuing to worsen, further attacks of this nature should not be ruled out.
