Sovereign Risk Ratings: The Recovery Is On…

BMI View: The ongoing mitigation of systemic macroeconomic risks and concomitant improvement in Emerging Europe's 2010 growth outlook has led to upgrades for nearly every country assessed in our proprietary sovereign risk ratings this quarter. That said, while there has been a broad based improvement in sovereigns' 'ability to pay', this has not been matched by a similar progression in their 'willingness to pay'. Moreover, these latest ratings have also highlighted our long-held relative value views within the region, with Central Europe continuing to look favourable, while the Baltic states remain a regional laggard.
