Interest Rates: Shifting Down A Gear

BMI View: We have revised our outlook for monetary policy following a largely unexpected 50 basis point (bps) interest rate cut from the South African Reserve Bank on March 25. Our new forecast is for the repo rate to remain at 6.50% for the remainder of 2010, before being hiked by 50bps in the early months of 2011.
