Our inaugural Sovereign Ratings index for Asia is generally positive, reflecting the countries' stable governments, sound macroeconomic policies, and prudent fiscal and debt management abilities. Three of the six countries we surveyed possess an A rating - China, Malaysia, and South Korea. This is no surprise really. All three have outstanding external debt piles of less than 10% of GDP. Also, generally strong current account surpluses thanks to robust exports, and massive forex reserves
