When most investors are appraising the prospects of an investment, profit warnings, high volatility, negative sentiment and analyst neglect are not on their list of criteria. However, for ABN AMRO 's Europe Equity Revival Fund , they are a must. 'We purchase the underdogs - companies which have fallen out of favour with investors, the media and analysts - but which have a convincing restructuring plan,' says Martine Paap the fund's portfolio manager. Crucially, Paap expects such companies to do well, even if the economic environment deteriorates - something that makes the strategy particularly pertinent to current conditions.
