Inflationary pressures are hurting across the Andean, and despite a reluctance to raise rates (for fear of stoking further FX appreciation), central bankers have little alternative, in our view. While global energy and food prices (the control of which is out of local policymakers hands) have been a dominant factor in the region's consumer price baskets, robust domestic demand has also played an important role, as evidenced in accelerating core inflation rates.
